It was charity day for me today (Assume it's still saturday)! Me, Ga Yeon, Wei Shin & Phang Hau joined the group of volunteers to IMH = Institute of Mental Health. Yes, mental health! Insane u may think i am, but i was curious about the mentally sicked. We went there with high spirits, thinking we were the best ppl in the world, we were the kindest lot, we were such great students n so on.. Then the real fear came when we stepped into the wards. We were basically crowded by a group of men.. it was a man's ward. Easier for guy volunteers to help around as well, see. And I was thinking in my heart, will they attack me? Cos 1 of them even took out his shirt to show us his tatoo at the back with 'mother, father' n some pics on his back. Frreeeaaaakkked me out like mad @@But it was a good experience overall, i mean they are not as insane as everyone thought they were. I mean, they were just normal ppl like u & I, like normal old ppl, it actually seemed more like an old folk's home to me than a mental hospital. I felt sad when i see them, they were like in prison, some of them were there for years, n really, they long for love from others, from the society. All we could do was to visit them once a week, n that brings great great great joy to them. We only adopt 1 ward, and we played games with them, talked to them.. They're like kids actually, but they're old. Some of them with physical disabilities, so it takes a lot of patience to communicate with them. Soon after, i felt as if i was taking care of an old baby instead of a mental patient. It only lasted for 2 hours plus, n it was really a good experience despite the dirti-ness of the place, cos the floor was quite sticky n their toilet smells bad, real bad! And one of the patients on the wheelchair freeeaked the hell out of me when he gave this sudden scream when i moved near him.. Damn scary man, i thought he was gonna assult me~!I wish i could upload pics of the place, but i wasnt allowed to take pics bcos of some privacy matters n stuff. So, imagine urselves!
